Privacy Policy
This is the privacy notice of Salford IT Help (SITH) updated on 27th November 2019. SITH is the trading name used by David Bryan Philip Jackson. David Jackson is a Sole Trader providing IT support services including website hosting, website development and PC repair.
This privacy policy explains how we use any personal information we collect about you when you use our website or IT support services. If you are not happy with any part of this policy one recourse is to leave our website immediately and not engage in our services.
Typical use of your data by SITH
Example One: PC Repair Client
You may hear about me from a friend and then phone my up and introduce yourself and explain your problem. Lets say your PC is broken and you want me to visit you to inspect your PC.
The personal data i have recorded so far includes…
- Your Name
- Home Address
- Mobile Phone Number
When I see your PC and discover it won’t turn on and the Power Supply is the issue, your agree I can order the replacement part and have it sent to your home. You give me your email address for invoicing purposes.
The extra personal data you have given me includes…
- Email Address
But you have also allowed me to share your personal data to arrange delivery of the required part.
Personal data shared with online retail could include…
- Your Name
- Your Address
- Your Email Address
- Your Mobile Number
The retailer will then share your data with the courier to ensure your replacement part is delivered to your address.
If you do not accept this necessary sharing of data you can arrange the purchase of the replacement part yourself. Your data is never shared without our mutual agreement which forms a legal contract. These are typically oral agreements for simple issues which may be followed up with an email confirming my understanding of our agreement.
Example Two: Website Design / Hosting
You visit my website after finding me through a google search. When you first visit my website you notice our prominent cookie bar which highlights you to our use of cookies and directs you to our cookie policy, where you can learn more about cookies and even prevent them from being used by your browser.
After reading about our services you use the online contact form to send me your contact details and a simple message.
Personal data emailed to me could include…
- Name
- Address
- Website URL
- Phone numbers
Your message lets me know you already have a website but it’s not mobile friendly and you want to have me redesign the website. We exchange emails and have a phone call to discuss the the requirements and design of your new website.
I retain your emails and make note on on an electronic text file stored separately from other clients personal information. Design notes may be made on paper but these do not contain your personal information.
Much of the information you provide me you intend to go on your website and therefore you intend this to be in the public domain. Where you provide me with your personal email, and personal mobile number and these are not intended for public sharing, I keep your information securely on network attached storage (Mirrored Array for redundancy) and often backed up to my online email account following completion of tax returns. My email account is protected by two step verification. If I use cloud based storage to reduce the risk of data loss by having off sight backups, I only use market leading providers who I have faith in their data security capabilities.
Where I provide quotations and invoices which contain your personal information these are emailed to you as necessary and these are sent to the email address we have created for you and (or) your personal email address where this has been provided and is your preferred method of communication.
Where I provide you with my personal data such as my name, email address and bank account details, I have the expectation that this information will be kept securely by you and not made public.
Protecting your personal information is something we happily do with diligence and we have found the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) website useful in understanding our responsibilities.
